Instructions

1) Cream butter, sugar and eggs, beat well.
2) Add apples and dry ingredients. Beat thoroughly.
3) Turn mixture into buttered pan.
4) Bake at 350 degrees.
5) Sauce: Mix sugars, butter and cream in heavy saucepan. Let mixture simmer for 10 minutes. Stir frequently, cool. Add vanilla and use.
6) Story: This dessert from Grandma West has become a birthday staple. Mom recalls the first time she made it: everyone was reluctant to try the gooey looking cake, but once they did, it quickly disappeared.
